Heyoooo! 💜

We’re Aapo Vuokila and Nam Nguyen, and we’re super mega excited to finally announce that we’re running for the positions of Master’s and International Student Captains (MISCs) for 2025! Together, we aim to have as much fun as possible, work towards integration and inclusion within the guild, break barriers between groups, and overall just be the best captains we can! Anyone who knows us knows that we work hard and play even harder. But for those of you who don’t know us, here’s our short and sweet introductions:

AAPO: Reels Addict, 2nd year DSD student

Since the day I first stepped foot into Otaniemi as a confused fuksi, I felt that the spirit in AS is absolutely next-level. The community of AS has been nothing short of incredible, and I have really found my calling in the international community of our beloved purple guild.

From my fuksi year, I’ve taken initiative and thrown myself into various responsibilities, events, and activities that have made my fuksi year one of the most memorable years of my life! One of the highlights of my journey so far has been my role as DSDeputy this year. I’ve tried my best to be as active as possible in ASPU, ASIC, ETCo, and with our hype af DSD fuksis, and I gotta say that this has been the best experience I could have ever asked for.

I have seen firsthand the positive impact that a strong and supportive international community can have on its members. And this is something I want to help foster and grow as MISC.

NAM: Certified Yapper, also a 2nd year DSD student

As an international student myself, AS has not for a single moment made me feel far from home™ (Marvel pls don’t sue). Since my fuksi year, I’ve had a burning desire to contribute back the hospitality that I’ve received, which I started by becoming a responsible ISO for this year’s fuksis. Afterwards, the desire only grew stronger, and so when Aapo suggested to me the idea of running for MISCs together, it was a no-brainer. I’m always seeking out new problems to solve, and I also derive great personal satisfaction from helping others, so helping my international fellows and new Master’s students as a MISC could not have been a more fitting option for me.

Being able to work with one of my closest friends here, on a noble cause we both love? My only question about that is why wasn’t I the one to come up with the idea.

Our Vision

Ok now, enough yappings about us, but what do we actually wanna do as MISCs? Well, I’m glad you asked! Here’s our amazing vision for our campaign:

1. Having Fun! 🎉💯

If we’re not having fun ourselves, then how could we expect the fuksis to have fun? Happiness is contagious, after all :) Fun is at the heart of everything we want to do as MISCs! Whether it’s through orientation week shenanigans, ASIC events, or anything in between, we want to create an atmosphere where every student can let loose and just have a good ‘ole time. We’ll make sure every moment, from orientation to the potential Wappu, is packed with laughter, memories, and, of course, good vibes all around.

2. Integration 👪🌍

We wanna make sure that all master’s and international students feel welcomed and supported, no matter where they come from. Whether it’s helping with navigating life in Finland, introducing them to our unique student culture, or just making sure everyone has a blast, we want every student to feel like they truly belong in AS from day one.

3. Breaking Barriers 💣💥

We want to bring new members of the AS community closer together, whether you’re a bachelor fuksi, master fuksi, exchange student, or anything in between. Our goal is to create more opportunities for everyone to meet and have fun together through chill events, parties, sitsis, or anything under the sun. By breaking down barriers between different groups and encouraging interaction across the guild, we’ll do our best to make sure that everyone feels like they’re part of a united AS community.

Me ollaan Aapo Vuokila ja Nam Nguyen, ja ollaan super mega innoissaan vihdoin ilmoittaa, että haemme Master’s and International Student Captains (MISC) -tehtäviin vuodelle 2025! Meidän tavoitteina on pitää hauskaa, edistää integraatiota killassa, murtaa rajoja eri ryhmien välillä, ja ennen kaikkea olla vaan parhaat mahdolliset kapteenit mitä pystytään! Kaikki jotka tuntee meidät, tietää, että ollaan kovia tekemään töitä mutta vielä kovempia pitämään hauskaa. Mutta niille, jotka eivät tunne meitä, tässä on lyhyet ja ytimekkäät esittelyt:

AAPO: Reels Addikti, toisen vuoden DSD-opiskelija

Heti kun astuin ensimmäistä kertaa Otaniemeen fuksina, tunsin että AS:n yhteishenki on ihan omaa luokkaansa. Kiltamme yhteisö on ollut aivan uskomaton, ja olen löytänyt oman paikkani KV-yhteisöstä meidän rakkaasta violetista killasta.

Fuksivuodesta lähtien olen aktiivisesti ottanut vastuita ja heittäytynyt erilaisiin tapahtumiin ja aktiviteetteihin, jotka ovat tehneet mun fuksivuodesta yksi elämäni parhaista! Yksi kiltaelämäni suurimmista kohokohdista tähän mennessä on pääsin olemaan tämän vuoden DSDeputy. Olen pyrkinyt olemaan mahdollisimman aktiivinen ASPUssa, ASICssa, ETCossa ja hype af DSD-fuksien kanssa, ja tämä on ehdottomasti ollut paras kokemus, mitä olisin koskaan voinut toivoa.

Olen nähnyt itse, kuinka merkittävä vaikutus vahvalla ja kannustavalla kansainvälisellä yhteisöllä voi olla sen jäsenille. Tämän yhteisön vahvistaminen ja kehittäminen on juuri sitä, mihin haluan keskittyä MISCin roolissa.

Meidän Visio

Noniin, nyt ollaan höpisty tarpeeksi meistä. Mutta siis mitä me oikeasti halutaan tehdä MISCeinä? No onpas kiva, että kysyit! Tässä on meidän upea visio:

1. Hauskanpito 🎉💯

Jos me ei itse pidetä hauskaa, miten voimme odottaa, että fukseilla olisi hauskaa? Ilohan on tarttuvaa :) Hauskuus on koko homman ytimessä, mitä haluamme tehdä MISCeinä! Haluamme luoda ilmapiirin, jossa jokainen opiskelija voi rentoutua ja nauttia opiskelijaelämästään orientaatioviikon hömpötyksistä ASIC-tapahtumiin. Me pidetään kiinni siitä, että jokainen hetki orientaatioviikosta mahdolliseen Wappuun on täynnä naurua, hyviä muistoja ja tietenkin älyttömän hyviä viboja.

2. Integraatio 👪🌍

Haluamme varmistaa, että kaikki maisteri- ja kv-opiskelijat tuntevat olonsa tervetulleiksi ja tuetuiksi, mistä tahansa he tulevatkin. Pyrkisimme siihen, että jokainen opiskelija tuntee kuuluvansa kiltaan heti alusta alkaen. Tämä näkyisi suomalaisen opiskelijakulttuurin esittelyssä sekä vain hauskanpidossakin.

3. Muurien rikkominen 💣💥

Ei siis kirjaimellisesti :D, mutta haluamme tuoda uusia opiskelijoita lähemmäs kiltaa, olitpa sitten kandifuksi, maisterifuksi, vaihto-opiskelija, tai jotain siltä väliltä. Meidän tavoitteena on luoda kaikille lisää mahdollisuuksia tavata toisiaan ja pitää hauskaa yhdessä rennoissa tapahtumissa, bileissä, sitseillä, tai missä vaan. “Rikkomalla muureja” killan ryhmien välillä ja edistämällä vuorovaikutusta kaikkien välillä teemme parhaamme, että kaikki tuntevat itsensä osaksi AS-yhteisöä.

Howdy MISC applicants

I am very intrigued by your application and was wondering to get your view on something: Based on your experiences from your fuksi year and current experience as ISO & DSDeputy, what do you think has worked well and would you add/change anything (e.g. from orientation week)?

Howdy MISC !!!

That’s a great question and we could go on about our experiences for days, but we tried our best to cook up a summary of the most important things for us. The past year has been a blast, and we think that it has been great overall, in particular…

The good:

• Nam: Orientation week was a hoot, communication from the guild has been good from a responsible ISO’s perspective, and the schedule was nicely planned out, with enough free time to catch my breath but still plenty of activities and mayhem. We plan on carrying over all the best aspects of our orientation experiences into our coming orientation plan!
• Aapo: It’s been great seeing ASIC grow so much this year! I think that the inclusion and integration of the Finnish and international students has been improving steadily, and we certainly succeeded with that more than ever at our last event, ASIC’s pre-party for Aalto afterparty. We plan on keeping this going with the committee by continuing to make epic events that cater to both the international crowd and Finnish students as well.

The bad:

• Nam: I think as MISC, I would like to establish better communication with Aalto regarding academic concerns, especially during orientation week. For example, during this year’s orientation week, I had fuksis asking about academic advising and I could only point them to where to go on their own and not much more, as there wasn’t much info even as a responsible ISO.
• Aapo: I think that working with people from other guilds has been a great experience during my time in ETCo, it’s been amazing to meet people from outside the guild and I’ve made some truly great friends through this. However, it has come with its challenges at times, and complications with communication and scheduling have been points of friction within the committee. Going forward, I plan on taking these learnings into KVTMK, where I’m sure we’ll also get to meet some amazing people!
