DSDeputy application 2024

Hey!

My name is Patxi Tolonen Hurtado, and I am a first-year DSD student. I’m applying for the role of DSDeputy because I believe this position plays an essential role in creating a sense of community among DSD students and helping them connect with the rest of the AS guild, a key aspect of the university experience.

The current DSDeputy has done excellent work organizing DSD events and creating a welcoming atmosphere for all. However, I believe there will always be room for improvement in this role. I have observed a divide in our guild; many English-speaking DSD students have limited interactions with the Finnish side of the AS guild. while everybody should be free to interact with people as they wish, I think that some DSD students might miss many opportunities to make many friends with their Finnish peers We had a similar issue in high school, where the IB side would not talk to the national side, which I think is a shame. As a DSDeputy, my goal would be to cultivate a more integrated culture in our guild.

I believe I would be a good choice for the role of DSDeputy. I am a highly extroverted person who enjoys making new connections. Additionally, I am fluent in Finnish, English, and Spanish. The reason that I am applying for this position is that I have seen our DSD bubble grow stronger, and with experience with this issue in high school, I believe many people could miss out on a much more fun university experience.

Hello mr. DSDeputy applicant! :man_dancing: Great to see that you’re applying for the role. I like the points you brought up and I have a few questions for you regarding your application.

  • How do you plan on strengthening the connection between the Finnish and international side of the guild?
  • On a scale from e to pi, how excited would you be to become the next DSDeputy?
  • What is your beverage of choice for clocking? :mantelpiece_clock:

  1. I plan on strengthening the connection in a couple ways: Previously in activities such as the HaalariSeikkailu where we were put into groups, DSD was always together. I get why this is done, but I believe that sometimes we could shuffle these up as games and common tasks bring upon a bigger sense of unity and connection after having been completed. Another way would be promoting hangouts with the whole guild, such as in ASki or sauna nights, also a nice way to show international students more about the Finnish culture. I found that many of the international students are interested in this culture, so this could be a good bonding idea.

  2. I feel like my excitement cannot be expressed in the value of these numbers, but instead in the amount of digits they contain

  3. I would say that I am more of a distinguished and fancy type of beverage enjoyer, ranging from coop lagers to lidlin punanen
