Application to the Treasurer position 2026

Moi! Xin chào!

Hallo, good day to anyone reading this application (to those who don’t too, everyone deserves a good day).

I am Anh Vu, or Alex if you expect me to react to the calling. I am a DSD 25’ fuksi, but yes, I am applying to the Treasurer position of AS 26’.

Beside the name and being a DSD fuksi, who am I?

Together with being one of the purple people, I’m a third-year business student, and I have completed my studies in International Business in 2 years (ka-chow! :lightning: :fire:), now slowly launching my master’s studies. My bachelor’s thesis topic was in the field of management accounting, and I am also one of the few people having taken all 30 ECTS of accounting and finance that the programme has to offer. All of this says a lot about my interest and fascination in accounting and finance; however, it is NOT the main reason why I want to become the Treasurer (but looks good for the application).

Then, why?

Because I feel belonging, simple as that. As soon as I realized the slowly-but-steadily-forming attachment with this guild, the urge to contribute to the purple association also stemmed. And so, what could be better than using the background and the interest that I already possess to help the organization prosper even more?

Some qualities of me that would help me with the job:

  • Endurance and resilience: I am not afraid of tension and pressure; actually, I’m a frequent. After all, I finished my bachelor’s with honor (not official, but qualified) in 2 years, as I wanted to attend DSD.

  • High availability: I guarantee immediate reaction whenever the duties call, except for during exams, of course, but other than that, you’d better believe I’m gonna respond even during my shower.

  • Observant, detail-oriented, and meticulous: I enjoy taking a step back and observing my surroundings, which helps me see things that people sometimes miss. Also, my analytical meticulousness is probably what steers me to the charm of accounting.

Miscellaneous pieces of information:

  • An Excel-holic: yes, I can use Excel and spreadsheets for anything, from thesis literature matrix, to courses’ details listing, to how much money I saved after last Tallinn trip (I pulled some crazy budget management there).

  • Phenomenal cooking, which also reflects my patience and eye for detail.

  • (Slightly) alcoholic: umm, very self-explanatory, but don’t be shy if I offer you a shot of Minttu.

  • I love Hawaiian shirts (picture below), so when the weather allows, you might see a dad on his vacation running loose around the campus.

  • I love purple (and pink, and green, hence dollar-green), one of the reasons why I chose DSD, the sole one even.

  • Won 2 out of 3 Kimble games I played in AS, winrate 66.67%.

Otaniemi-CV:

Basically non-existent because it’s my first year here, but I’m working on it, currently marching towards the Superfuksi title.

An ISO-wannabe.

TL;DR:

Who? Alex, 1st-year DSD, 3rd-year business.

Why? Want to contribute to AS using my background in business studies and my interest in accounting and finance.

Qualities? 1/ Endurance and resilience; 2/ High availability; 3/ Observant, detail-oriented, and meticulous.

P/s: Digging up some pics is honestly harder than writing the application, I’m camera-shy and have no pic in purple overalls yet.

Great to hear that you’re interested in becoming the Treasurer Alex! It’s very reassuring to see DSD-fuksis also becoming more interested in board positions. Your circumstances are quite similiar to what got me into applying for Treasurer a year back, although your qualifications go way beyond mine  A couple of questions for you below?

Given that you’re quite new in the guild, do you think you would have a good enough of a grasp on the operations of the whole guild to be able to judge whether a given reimbursement application is correct or necessary?

I use telegram lowkey way too much, and as such it hasn’t been an issue to reply to budget/money related tg-messages at a minute’s notice depending on the (my) conditions. Are you prepared to be available enough (working hours are quite enough) in order to not cause any officials anxiety regarding their finances?

Receipt pictures are sometimes blurry, and most explanations on reimbursement claims are in Finnish. How do you think you’ll handle this?

Finally, the most important duty in the Treasurer’s year is to make the final statement for the auditors to go through at the end of the year. To prove you’re ready for the task, fill the final statement below:

Hi Saku, glad you initiated some questions, really interesting ones, to stir up the applications. Let’s go through each:

  • Would I have a good enough grasp on the operations of the whole guild to judge whether a given reimbursement application is correct or necessary?

Answer: A really good and critical question, I agree with you that this is such a concern for a new member of the guild. For as long as I have been a member of AS, I have always taken my chance to observe and understand more about the operations of the guild. However, how could that ever be enough? So, I would say that, while I’m still learning day by day, of course, at the moment, I haven’t had enough yet. But, as I have mentioned in the application, I am highly observant, together with being detail-oriented and meticulous; if I am going to make it to the Treasurer position and get involved more and more in the guild’s operation, I am sure I will absorb everything in no time. So, my ultimate answer would be: Yes, I would.

  • Am I prepared to be available enough in order to not cause any officials anxiety regarding their finances?

Answer: Yes, I am alarmingly chronically online. Also, I have addressed it as a quality of mine in the application: guaranteeing high availability.

  • How to handle blurry receipt pictures and Finnish explanations on reimbursement claims?

Answer: Firstly, in the situation of blurry receipt pictures, I will either hunt the receipt holders down to take the pictures again or, if they are thrown away already, use upscale applications. Secondly, about the matter of explanations in Finnish, I will employ any translation tools I can get, from physical materials to the help from members in the committee. In addition, I’m a quick learner, especially at reading comprehension; although I can’t guarantee speaking (it’s a problem in most of the languages that I have learned by far, and spoken Finnish is lethal :skull:), I would say that with sufficient practicing, I will gradually learn to understand the required documents.

  • Final statement 2026 (hypothetical):

Feel free to place more questions if there is anything remaining unclear or something else you want to ask about.
